venus in furs

A few a few days after my arrival in Valladolid the weather started getting colder and colder, which was actually quite nice as I love getting all wrapped up- as long as it doesn't rain! I also got a chance to wear some of the lovely things I'd picked up at Camden Stables market in London.

I absolutely adore this faux fur coat from one of the vintage shops. The fact that it has a zip makes it a little more casual so I can wear it every single day and it is just so cosy. Beautiful and practical, an elusive but winning combination!

The candy apple shoes are also a favourite. They're probably the comfiest things I've ever had on my feet. I got them in a little shoe shop in the middle of the market from an old man who was just too nice to say no to. They were the only size 5 pair on the stall so it was probably fate or something. They are Church's which (I was told) would usually be around £300 but whatever deal the guy had with them I picked them up for a lot less! They're perfect with jeans and dark colours for winter and I think they compliment my jacket very well!

This vintage silk head scarf is a cute and colourful alternative to a hat, keeping your ears nice and toasty when worn like this but also versatile as it can obviously be worn around your neck like a normal person wears a scarf. How good am I getting at making practical purchases!?

london and goodbyes!

I've been really crap at updating the blog because I've been making the tough but exciting transition   from Ireland to Spain and my last couple of weeks were spent rushing around trying to say goodbye to as many people as possible. I'm moving to Spain for a year to study in Valladolid and I arrived here on Saturday. The weather was gorgeous but it's been getting steadily colder ever since.

I spent two days in London with my mum and sister before I left which was lovely but we stupidly forgot to bring a camera so here are some poor quality pics of me overlooking the Thames :)

I absolutely love these shoes that I got in Dublin last week, and was over the moon when I found out they were reduced from €55 to €25; what a bargain!

Indian pin-up

Yes it is that swimsuit again. I paired it with these autmnal colours to bring it into the chillier months. I love the way the hues of the seaweed in the background accent the tones in the outfit. Topped off with a headscarf, heavy eyebrows and a bindi for that popular look 50s-pin-up-with-an-Indian-twist. You know the one.

cross dresser

I've never really played with masculine tailoring before but couldn't resist when I found this lovely little shorts suit in Penneys. I made this cute little dickie bow out of the red satin of a dress I used to use for dress up. The shirt is H&M, shoes are Urban Outfitters and the jewellery is second hand. I love the little spool necklace and it ties in so well with the outfit!

Got these dainty little Nine West shoes in a charity shop for €6 if you can believe it! The shirt is also a second hand bargain. With the mad pattern of the shirt I thought I'd keep accessories to a minimum with a gold collar necklace and this cute statement ring, both for Penneys! The jeans are also Penneys, and pretty much identical to a pair of Topshop ones I used to own, as well as being a quarter of the price!

I'm pretty sure watching Lion King and The Jungle Book with my little sister inspired this outfit. This our little cat Connie trying to get involved in the photoshoot.

nymph

What a gorgeous day. My mum and I went to the beach expecting hoards of last minute tourists only to find a deserted stretch of sand just for us! This forest is right beside the beach so we were delighted to have it all to ourselves in the dappled sunlight; a perfect backdrop for this outfit of rich colours and fabrics.

I made these shorts myself from a piece of material I found in my bedroom and a black skirt I bought for work and never wore, with the help of a few DIY tutorials on YouTube. I'm delighted with how they turned out. The fabric has tiny mirrors sewed in, which made sewing them very difficult but it was worth the way they glimmer when they catch the light. I've already worn them on a night out and they managed to survive so I'm pretty happy with that as a quality test. I originally got the inspiration for the shorts from these beautifully shot pictures by planet blue for their august lookbook yesterday's flowers. I love everything about those pictures: the setting, the colours, the clothes and the model, but the shorts  (from the fifth and sixth pictures in the lookbook) really caught my eye and I thought "I can do that", and it turns out I can!

The lacey lilac bralet is from Topshop and the gorgeous necklace is an old one of my mum's mum. I rarely get to wear it so it's such a treat when I can. It's such a decorative piece and can really dress up an outfit. I think it fits in well with the luxurious feel of this look.

Sorry about the unusually long post, I'm just quite proud of the fact that I made a functioning piece of clothing! Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine x
